Dexaprine is a nonprescription fat burner that the manufacturer also claims works as an appetite suppressant and offers a dieter a massive boost in energy in order to make it easier for them to lose weight.

More specifically, among the benefits it claims to provide include:

  • 12 hours of continuous energy
  • Mood enhancement
  • Appetite suppression
  • No fog
  • No crash

What is In the Dexaprine Formula

The formula for Dexaprine, which is produced by American company iForce Nutrition, is made up of the Dexaprine Tri-Phase Ignition System. This includes three complexes.

  • The “Thermophoric Amine Mood Enhancement Complex” is composed of Citrus Aurantium and 1,3-Dimethylpentylamine.
  • The “Extended Release Energy Complex” contains caffeine anhydrous and green tea extract.
  • The “Anabolic Protein Synthesis Enhancing Complex” contains 3,3’ Diiodo L-Thyronine and 3,5 Diiodo L-Thyronine.

1,3 DMAA: A Controversial and Illegal Ingredient

First things first, this diet pill contains multiple stimulants, including caffeine and synephrine, which can lead to adverse effects. However, more importantly, it contains the stimulant 1,3-Dimethylpentylamine, which is also known as 1,3 DMAA, among other names.  While this ingredient is sold as a dietary supplement for attention deficit-hyperactive disorder, body building, improving athletic performance and weight loss, this substance was added to the World Anti-Doping Agency’s prohibited substances list in 2010.

More importantly, its use in supplements has been banned in several countries, including Canada and New Zealand. Even in the US, the FDA considers supplements containing 1,3 DMAA to be illegal, as it has been linked to several reports of serious and life-threatening side effects.

Additionally, a number of countries began banning the sale of Dexaprine, itself, back in 2013, making it illegal to manufacture, purchase, or sell in these countries. Two of the most notable countries to ban this product were the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, with the UK jumping on board the ban only a week after Dutch authorities prohibited the distribution and selling of the product.

The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) stated that Dexaprine is considered to be an “unlicensed medicinal product and will be instructing Predator Nutrition to remove the product from sale.”

The side effects associated with 1,3 DMAA can be as harmless and annoying as nausea, headaches, and sleeplessness, or as problematic as anxiety, heart palpitations, increased blood pressure, and increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

This Diet Pill Should Be Avoided

In spite of the controversy that surrounded Dexaprine in the UK and the Netherlands in 2013, this OTC diet pill can still be purchased in the US today, and was being advertised via the official iForce Nutrition website for $59.99 when this Dexaprine review was written. There is also another version of his product called Dexaprine XR, which doesn’t contain 1,3-Dimethylpentylamine.

That said, due to the fact that this product has been wrapped up in a tremendous amount of controversy and it contains a dangerous and illegal ingredient, you should refrain from purchasing it.

It would even be wise to avoid purchasing the less potent Dexaprine RX and anything from this manufacturer, for that matter. After all, if this company thinks it is fine and safe to add an illegal and potentially dangerous ingredient to any of their supplements, they do not have your best interests at heart and are not worth your time or your money. It is far better to consider a nonprescription diet pill of a higher quality and safety from a more reputable manufacturer.
