CDC Confirms 42% of US Adults Are Obese, Weight Loss Options Are Needed

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has underscored the call for more weight loss options that doctors and everyday people have been voicing for many years.  The CDC released a new report that says 42.2 percent of all US adults now have obesity.  According to the report, the number of men and women with obesity appears to be about the same.

The High Obesity Rate Reflects a Need for Weight Loss Options

The CDC measures obesity based on the body mass index (BMI) scale.  People are deemed to have obesity when their BMI, that is, their indicator of body fat levels based on height and weight – rises above 30.  When a person’s BMI is higher than 40, they are described as having extreme obesity, which is a more dangerous type of this disease.

Across the United States, a striking 9.2 percent of the adult population is now believed to have extreme obesity.  Though the overall number of cases of obesity are about the same between men and women, that changes in the extreme obesity level.  There, women outnumber men in a statistically significant way.

The CDC data showed that adults aged 40 through 59 are most likely to be obese or severely obese. This shows that there is a need for weight loss options that will work realistically for certain specific groups of people.

The Situation is Getting Worse

The CDC’s report showed that since the 21st century began, obesity has been becoming more common at a rapid rate. From the year 2000 until now, the rate rose from about 30 percent to over 40 percent of all adults in the United States.  In the case of extreme obesity that figure grew from 5 percent to more than 9 percent, nearly doubling in that span of time.

There is a need for weight loss options that will work realistically for certain specific groups of people.

The need for healthy weight loss options is necessary for people who are already suffering from obesity.  That said, they are also needed for individuals who aren’t yet obese, but whose weights are headed in that direction.

As with other medical conditions, prevention is just as important as treatment. In that, weight loss options play a vital role in the wellness of individuals who could become obese but who could avoid it through the right realistic means.

The right weight loss options can help to improve overall quality of life. Moreover, they could also reverse negative health risks and the direct negative impact of obesity on the body from the added stress on muscles, joints and bones.
